Renewable energy target and Galilee Basin coal

Australia’s federally mandated renewable energy target is currently under review, and there’s been some very vocal submissions into that review recommending that the Target itself be scrapped as a costly duplication of the carbon tax. Third Degree is joined by Tim Sonnreich. Tim is the Strategic Policy Manager at the Clean Energy Council, the peak body for the clean energy industry.

Environmental NGOs are warning of the consequences of a new ‘coal rush’ in Queensland. Greenpeace says that emissions from coal mined from the as yet untapped Galilee Basin would endanger the world’s efforts to keep atmospheric greenhouse gas within safe limits. Third Degree speaks with Georgina Woods, Senior Climate & Energy Campaigner for Greenpeace Australia-Pacific.
